The diameter of this mushroom usually varies from 3 to 15 cm. Spore powder is cinnamon brown. It is very common in Latvia. It grows under pines or spruce, along grassy forest tracks from late May to December, sometimes only a week before Christmas. It also grows abundantly in sandy pine forests near the sea, where it usually is without so called "worms". Edible and tasty when fried without boiling, good for pickling. One needs to peel off the slimy cap's cuticle.

Cepama bez iepriekšējas novārīšanas, laba marinēšanai, sālīšanai, zupās. Nav tik laba kaltēšanai. Pirms gatavošanas jānoņem cepurītes virsmiziņa.
