Sarkstošā dižsardzene

Syn.: Lepiota rhacodes; Lepiota rachodes
Cits latviskais nosaukums:  Sarkstošā saulsardzene
English name: Shaggy Parasol
Deutschen Namen: Rötender Schirmpilz, Safran-Riesenschirmling

This mushroom is smaller than Macrolepiota procera. The diameter of its cap usually varies from 7 to 15 cm. It has very large-scaled cap's surface. When bruised, its white flesh turns orange-red or pink. Spore powder is white. It grows mostly in spruce forests, often abundantly, from August to October. It is very common in Latvia. Edible, very tasty when fried without boiling! Small caps are good for stuffing. Discard the stipe and consume the cap only. Be aware - it causes alergic reactions to some sensitive people.
