The diameter of its cap usually does not exceed 12 cm. Spore powder is olive-brown. The bottom of its stalk turns greenish blue, even if slightly damaged. It grows under pines and birches in damp, also in rather dry places from August to September. It is quite common in Latvia. Edible and tasty when fried, pickled or dried.
