The diameter of its cap usually does not exceed 10 cm. Unlike other boletes, this mushroom has very short pores. When bruised, the tubes turn green-blue. Spore powder is yellow-brown. It grows in damp places under alders from July to October. It is rather rare in Latvia, and was under protection until 2004. Edible when fried and rather tasty.
